Mark Cuban has criticized X as an “echo chamber” for its billionaire owner, Elon Musk.
On a recent podcast with Trevor Noah, the entrepreneur and investor discussed his public spat with Musk over DEI practices. The two billionaires have been arguing since Cuban posted a series of X posts defending such policies against heavy criticism from Musk.
Cuban said during an episode of “What Now? with Trevor Noah” that the odds were likely stacked against him before the row started. He said X was set up to be “Elon’s little echo chamber that rewards people that he rewards.”
“I knew I was going into the lion’s den and that people were just going to shit on me left and right,” Cuban continued. “Which is exactly why I wrote it because it made it more interesting.”
“That was the audience that needed to hear it, and if there was one lightbulb that came on — that’s a win,” he added.
Cuban published several lengthy posts on the platform defending DEI earlier this month. Musk later escalated the spat by calling Cuban’s defense of the practice a desperate attempt at virtue signaling.
The subject of DEI has come under scrutiny from various quarters in recent months.
Chip Wilson, the founder of Lululemon, criticized what he described as the “whole diversity and inclusion thing” in a recent interview with Forbes. The brand later distanced itself from Wilson’s comments.
Representatives for Musk did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.
