The Vivo V30 and V30 Pro have become the first mid-range smartphones to feature ZEISS cameras, which the company had so far reserved for premium devices such as the X100.
I have been using the Vivo V30 Pro for a few days now, and here is my detailed review of the latest mid-range smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker.

Pros and cons

Design and display
In addition to the hardware, the company has also revamped the design of the V30 Pro when compared to its predecessor. The device comes with an AG glass back.
The smartphone comes in two colour options – Andaman Blue and Classic Black. I tested the Andaman Blue colour option that comes with a wavy pattern at the back. The AG glass back design looks good and feels premium. The device does not attract fingerprint smudges, allowing you to use it without a case without any issues. However, the device is quite slippery, so I recommend using it with a case.
The V30 Pro features a rectangular camera module at the back that houses the tiple 50MP camera setup and comes with the ZEISS branding. Below that, you have the Aura Ring Light in a rectangular design.
The Vivo V30 Pro comes with curved edges that allow you to hold the phone easily. The device is sleek and weighs just 188 grams, which allows you to easily hold the device, even in one hand.
The smartphone features a plastic frame with volume rockers and the power button placed on the right side.
At the top, you get a microphone and some text highlighting the device’s camera prowess.
At the bottom, you get the SIM tray, a microphone, a USB Type-C port, and the speaker grille.
Coming to the display, the smartphone features a 6.78-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,800 nits peak brightness.
The display on the Vivo V30 Pro is great, and you will not face any issues, whether you are gaming, watching movies, or just browsing. The high resolution and high refresh rate make it a great option, especially for fans of fast-paced content.
Software and performance
The Vivo V30 Pro runs on Android 14 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 14 on top. The device will get two years of Android updates and three years of security updates. Vivo should have added additional software support to the device, as companies have now started offering longer software support.
For those unaware, Funtouch OS is a highly customised version of Android from Vivo and offers a host of features.
Unlike the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro, the V30 Pro has its fair share of bloatware. This includes applications like Snapchat, PhonePe, Facebook, LinkedIn and others. While these can be uninstalled easily, the V-Appstore, which is the company’s app store also sends notifications randomly.
In terms of performance, the Vivo V30 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset coupled with up to 12GB LPDDR5X of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. It is to be noted that the Dimensity 8200 is the same chipset that was used in the V29 Pro.
While it is an older chipset, the Dimensity 8200 still offers decent performance and battery efficiency. The chipset, which is coupled with ample RAM and storage can handle multitasking efficiently, without any lag.
I played popular titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9 on the V30 Pro at high settings and did not notice any stuttering. The device does get slightly hot after an extended gaming session, but it is manageable.
The smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging support, allowing you to charge the device quickly. It offers over a day of battery life and can be fully charged in less than 50 minutes.
Camera
The Vivo V30 Pro comes with a triple camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX920 sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The camera comes with ZEISS optics and features Zeiss T* lens coating.
The device also comes with aura lighting, which is nearly 20 times larger than before and can identify and adjust the colour temperature. The lighting helps in capturing better images even in low light conditions.
The daylight shots captured with the V30 Pro turned out well, capturing good details with excellent colour reproduction. It can focus on the subject quickly and capture images with good highlight retention.
Portrait images captured with the device come out great, with good edge detection and subject details. The device can capture good images even in low light conditions with minimal noise. Do note that the light mode takes a bit longer than usual to capture images.
The device features a 50MP selfie camera, which captures decent photos in daylight and low-light conditions.
Verdict
The Vivo V30 Pro is a feature-packed device that comes with a sleek design. The main highlight of the device is its camera, which can take on devices in the premium segment.
However, the company’s decision to use the Dimensity 8200 chipset and stick to limited software updates is something that you need to keep in mind. The OnePlus 12R, which is priced lower than the V30 Pro is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and offers three years of Android updates and four years of security updates.
At the end of the day, if you are looking for premium cameras in the mid-range segment and do not mind the reduced software support, the Vivo V30 Pro is a good option for you.
